Rabea Willers

Rabea Willers is working at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the field of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). In this role, she supports the national implementation of UNESCO’s Global Action Programme on ESD, which is based on a multi-stakeholder process, involving more than 300 institutions from politics, academia, media, business and civil society. The goal is to structurally implement ESD, as a key enabler of the Sustainable Development Goals, in the education system. Rabea also pursues a PhD at the University of Westminster, London. Her research is on digital democracy in smart cities, focusing on the potential of ICT-enabled tools and initiatives for citizen participation and good governance. Before joining the BMBF, Rabea was a project officer at the Council of Europe, Strasbourg, in the Directorate for Democratic Governance. Rabea holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations from Jacobs University and the University of Bremen.
