Désirée Remmert is a postdoctoral research fellow at the European Research Center on Contemporary Taiwan at the University of Tübingen and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Academia Sinica in Taipei. In her current research project she examines intergenerational differences in decision-making and autonomy expectations among urban Taiwanese. She specialises in interdisciplinary comparative research with a regional focus on urban China and Taiwan. Désirée holds a PhD in Anthropology from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her PhD dissertation compares aspirations and life-choices of young adults in Beijing and Taipei against the different socio-economic and political backgrounds of China and Taiwan. During her PhD studies she was a Visiting Research Associate at the Institute of Ethnology at the Academia Sinica in Taipei as well as at the College of Humanities and Development Studies at the China Agricultural University in Beijing. After the completion of her field research, Desiree received a SUPRA scholarship and researched at the Nordic Institute of Asian Studies at the University of Copenhagen. Previously, she completed an interdisciplinary master's program at the LSE. Beyond her native language German, Désirée is fluent in English, French, Swedish and Mandarin.
