Dr Florian Butollo is head of the research group "Working in highly-automated digital-hybrid processes" at the newly-founded Weizenbaum Institute for the Network Society in Berlin. Dr Butollo's research group is looking at the transformation of work in various economic sectors with the advent of advanced robotics, digital process management, and the industrial internet of things. He is a member of the Enquete Commission on AI of the federal government to be launched in autumn 2018. Before joining the Weizenbaum Institute, Dr Butollo was working as a post-doc at the department of labour, industrial and economic sociology at the university of Jena where he taught over a dozen courses at graduate and undergraduate levels. He received the teaching award of this university for his concept for a research seminar on "Industry 4.0". His dissertation "The End of Cheap Labour? Industrial Transformation and Social Upgrading in China" received multiple awards and was included to the shortlist of the Estoril Global Issues Distinguished Book Prize for the best book on globalization. Dr Butollo continues to conduct research on industrial transformation in China, recently with a focus on digitalization and AI.
