Wang Shaonan is an assistant professor at Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA), Beijing, China. Prior to this, she received her PhD degree from the National Laboratory of Pattern Recognition (NLPR), CASIA. Her research interest lies in the area of natural language processing (NLP) where she has worked on statistical approaches and computational models to extract semantic representation from text. She also believes in the benefit of interdisciplinary research, and mainly focuses on combining insights of cognitive psychology to build better natural language understanding models. To achieve machine language understanding, following issues need to be addressed: How to represent language symbols in a way the computer can understand; How to make the language model learn as efficiently as people do; How to evaluate the performance of a computational model, and so on. She is interested in all of these aspects and more.
