Stefanie Sörensen is working at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on its new partnership for sustainable development with China. Her tasks include implementing the 2030 Agenda, improving mutual understanding of each other's development cooperation programmes and fostering South-South cooperation, and developing answers to fundamental questions in the field of development policy that both sides are facing. Before that she has been working at BMZ at the crossroads of trade policy and development policy aiming at better integrating developing countries into the global trading system. Prior to joining the BMZ she participated in the German Development Institute's (DIE) Postgraduate Training Programme for Development Cooperation where she conducted a field research on sustainable management of natural resources in the Philippines. Stefanie has done studies of Chinese culture and language at the Ocean University of China in Qingdao and holds an M.A. in Sinology and Economics from Trier University. During her studies she completed internships at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), KfW Development Bank and the German Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.
